The Facts and Some History

In the beginning

SA Hope Center began over 30 years ago as a benevolence ministry of Oak Hills Church. The SA Hope Center became a 501c3 nonprofit organization in 2001 and moved to its current location in the Westside on 321 N. General McMullen Drive in 2005. In 2014, the SA Hope Center’s program model took a shift from a food pantry program to a multi-faceted social service agency.

A shift to be noticed

In 2014, SA Hope Center’s program model took a shift from a food pantry program to a multi-faceted social service agency that addresses the root causes of poverty to help the community become holistically sustainable.

Our model

A quality assessment model with in-depth discovery and connection. The SA Hope Center follows a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary model of social intervention. Our programs are relationally-focused and provide various programs including financial literacy, job training, senior services, nutrition assistance, health and wellness screenings and classes, parenting classes, spiritual programs, and many more.

An excellent team

SA Hope Center program staff consist of licensed and experienced social workers and partners. Annually, the SA Hope Center partners with local universities to host approximately 10 - 15 interns of various social service backgrounds. SA Hope Center collaborates with over a dozen local nonprofit organizations in San Antonio to serve the community.

Man shall not live on bread alone

SA Hope Center has on-staff pastoral care and a Christ-like culture. At our core, we are love. We believe that God created each person with a specific purpose. Our passion is to bring that purpose to life through compassion, empathy, and a Christ-like culture. We exist for one reason: to be the voice for the voiceless and to empower them to succeed.

Our Mission

We love people well by empowering them to meet their needs through in-depth case management and wrap-around social services.

OUR VISION

Eliminating systemic multi-generational poverty.
Values

There are some values that are inherent to who we are. Our Christ-like culture fosters these values, which we live by on a daily basis. Genuinely caring about those we help, combined with our passion to empower, makes us who we are. We are love.

We provide those in need the tools necessary to get back
on their feet, not only by helping them in the moment, but by providing them with a plan that will positively impact the rest of their lives. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.

Trust is important. Assuring those who come to us that there is hope for their future empowers them to believe again, and having confidence in our services is key.

Empathy is a part of who we are. We understand the struggles and are ready to help. We welcome all those in need and we go above and beyond to help them succeed in life.

We judge no one. Anyone seeking help has found it with us. No matter the circumstances, we do our best to guide everyone to a brighter future.
